This policy covers exocortex.au and the Sleepy Time Crime app, both made by Exocortex Pty Ltd (ABN 64 700 571 099), Brisbane, Australia. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the service, we don't sell your data, and we don't show you ads.
This website
The site itself sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and collects nothing about you. If you email us, we have your email — that's it.
What the app collects
- An anonymous account. The app creates one for you automatically so it knows your subscription is yours. There is no sign-up: no name, no email address, no password. It is a random identifier and nothing else.
- Purchase status. Whether you hold an active subscription. Payment itself is handled entirely by Apple — we never see your card details.
- How the app is used. Which stories are played, how far through one you get, and which screens you reach. We use this to work out which stories send people to sleep and where the app is confusing, and for nothing else. It is tied to the anonymous account above, never to you by name.
Your place in each story, your favourites and any downloads stay on your phone. They are not uploaded, so they do not follow you to another device.
Crash reports reach us through Apple's own system, and only if you have turned that sharing on in your device settings. We have added no crash or tracking software of our own.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
- We don't show advertising, so nothing tracks you for it.
- We don't build profiles of you across other apps or websites.
- We don't collect anything from your device beyond what's listed above.
Where your data lives
The anonymous account, the subscription status and the usage data are stored with our hosting providers, who process them on our behalf and on our instructions. Data may be stored outside Australia; where it is, we take reasonable steps to ensure it's handled consistently with Australian privacy law.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything held on your phone, including your place in each story and any downloads. To have the anonymous account and its records deleted from our side as well, email hello@exocortex.au and we'll do it and confirm when it's done. Because the account carries no name or email address, tell us roughly when you started using the app so we can find it.
Your rights
We handle personal information under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and its Privacy Principles. You can ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or complain about how we've handled it — and if you're not happy with our answer, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app and date the change here. We won't quietly move the goalposts.
